Teardrop Trailer Camper Cover Installation Guide

This installation guide is designed specifically for your Teardrop Trailer Cover. Teardrop campers are lightweight, compact trailers known for their simple design and easy towing, so this guide walks you through everything you need—what's included with your cover, how to prepare your camper, the proper way to install and remove your teardrop trailer cover, tips for keeping it clean, and answers to the most common questions from teardrop trailer owners.

What's Included

  • 1 x Teardrop Trailer Camper Cover
  • 1 x Storage Bag
  • 4 x Rain Gutter Protectors
  • 1 x Repair Patch
  • 1 x Weighted Buckles Bag

Pre-Installation Checklist

  • Clean your teardrop camper before covering. Removing dirt, dust, and debris protects the finish and extends the life of the cover.
  • Inspect for sharp edges such as gutters, racks, or metal corners. Pad these areas when necessary. Always use the included gutter protectors to prevent wear and avoid tearing the cover.

How to Install Your Teardrop Trailer Camper Cover

  • STEP 1: Unpack the camper cover on a flat, clean surface like a driveway. Release all straps and buckles.
  • STEP 2: Lay the cover so the roof panel faces upward.
  • STEP 3: Locate the tag labeled “FRONT” to position the cover correctly.
  • STEP 4: Fold both side panels inward toward the roof panel, then roll the cover from back to front.
  • STEP 5: Place the rolled cover on the roof at the front of your teardrop trailer. Because these campers are compact, this step is usually easy without climbing equipment, though a step stool may help.
  • STEP 6: Unroll the cover toward the rear of the trailer, letting the side panels drop naturally down the sides.
  • STEP 7: Adjust the cover evenly across the roofline and sides. Pull it down gently.
  • STEP 8: Center the cover, then secure the bottom corners first. Tighten the straps and buckles to remove slack.
  • STEP 9: Fasten the remaining middle and lower straps. Use the weighted toss bag to guide straps safely underneath the trailer.
  • STEP 10: Once secured, the cover should fit snugly and remain stable even in light winds.

Warnings

  • Do not stay inside your trailer while the cover is installed.
  • Never move or tow the camper while covered.
  • Avoid installing or removing the cover during strong winds.
  • Do not stand on wet or slippery surfaces while installing.

Because teardrop trailers are small, installation can often be done alone, but having two people makes the process quicker and easier, especially when tightening straps.

How to Remove Your Teardrop Trailer Camper Cover

To remove your camper cover, follow the installation steps in reverse. Fold and roll the cover neatly before placing it back in the storage bag. Proper folding ensures it fits and is ready for the next use.

Important: Never store the cover while damp. Moisture can cause mildew or permanent damage.

How to Clean Your Teardrop Trailer Camper Cover

Only hand-clean your cover. For best results, install it on your trailer and rinse with a hose to remove dust and dirt. Use a soft cloth and mild cleaner for spot cleaning. Rinse thoroughly and air-dry completely before storage.

Cleaning Warnings

  • Do NOT use bleach, harsh soaps, or fabric softeners.
  • Do NOT machine wash or iron the cover.
  • Always let the cover dry completely before storing.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know which side is the front of the cover?

Every teardrop trailer cover has a white tag labeled “FRONT.” If the label is missing, the tagged end still indicates the front.

What are the vertical zippers for?

The zippers provide access panels, allowing you to enter your camper without fully removing the cover. Some models also include rear zippers for back access.

What are the built-in Velcro straps inside the cover?

They hold the access panels securely when unzipped so they won’t collapse while you’re using the entry points.

Repair Patch Instructions

Use the included repair patch for small punctures or tears under 3 inches in flat areas of the cover.

When to Use

  • Small pinholes or cuts
  • Tears caused by sharp edges
  • Reinforcing high-stress spots like rain gutters or seams

How to Apply

  1. Lay the cover flat and clean/dry the damaged spot.
  2. Trim any loose threads; round off patch corners.
  3. Ensure patch overlaps damage by 1–2 inches.
  4. Peel backing, align carefully, and press down firmly.
  5. Smooth outward from the center to remove air bubbles.
  6. Let cure for 12–24 hours before reinstalling the cover.

Tip: For maximum strength, apply a patch on both sides of the fabric.

Your Teardrop Trailer Cover comes with one repair patch. Additional patches can be purchased here.

How do I install the rain gutter protectors?

Place each protector over a gutter and secure with Velcro. Using all four helps stop sharp edges from damaging your cover.

Extra gutter protectors are available here.

How do I use the weighted buckle bag?

Fill the toss bag with rocks or sand, clip it to a strap, and toss it beneath the trailer. This makes guiding straps under your teardrop much easier.

Additional toss bags can be purchased here.
