Travel Trailer Cover — Installation Guide

This installation guide is designed specifically for your Travel Trailer Cover. Travel trailers have unique shapes—from shorter single-axle models to longer bunkhouse floorplans—so this guide walks you through everything you need: what’s included with your cover, how to prepare your trailer, the safest way to install and remove your travel trailer cover, cleaning tips to maximize durability, and answers to the most common questions from trailer owners.

What's Included

  • 1 × Travel Trailer Cover
  • 1 × Storage Bag
  • 4 × Rain Gutter Protectors
  • 1 × Ladder Cap (if equipped)
  • 1 × Repair Patch
  • 1 × Weighted Buckles Toss Bag

Pre-Installation Checklist

  • Wash your travel trailer thoroughly before covering. Removing dirt and debris protects the finish and helps the cover last longer.
  • Pad sharp or protruding areas: gutter spouts, awning arms, ladder ends, bumper corners, license plate frames, hitch/tongue components, etc. Use the included rain gutter protectors and ladder cap to reduce wear and prevent tears.
  • Close windows/vents and retract antennas/awnings. Verify propane is off and stabilizer jacks are set.

How to Install Your Travel Trailer Cover

  • STEP 1: Unpack the cover on a clean, flat surface. Release all straps and buckles.
  • STEP 2: Position the cover so the roof panel faces upward. Locate the tag labeled “FRONT.” On trailers, the “front” corresponds to the tongue/hitch end.
  • STEP 3: Fold the side panels inward toward the roof, then roll the cover from rear to front (toward the tongue) for easier placement.
  • STEP 4: Lift the rolled cover onto the roof at the front (tongue) side. A step ladder and a helper make this safer and faster.
  • STEP 5: Unroll the cover toward the rear bumper, letting the side panels drape down evenly on both sides.
  • STEP 6: Attach the ladder cap and rain gutter protectors as you work your way down. Center the cover before fastening.
  • STEP 7: Secure the bottom corners first, then connect and tighten the straps and buckles along the sides to remove slack.
  • STEP 8: Use the weighted toss bag to pass straps safely underneath the trailer without crawling.
  • STEP 9: Check that the cover is snug and evenly tensioned. Re-tighten after the first day if needed.

Warnings

  • Do not install or remove the cover in high winds.
  • Do not stand on a wet or slippery roof.
  • Do not tow the trailer with the cover installed.
  • Ensure hot components (e.g., exhaust from a generator) are cool before covering.

Due to the size and height of many travel trailers, installation is safest with two people. Communicate with your helper throughout the process to avoid accidents.

How to Remove Your Travel Trailer Cover

Reverse the installation steps: loosen straps, lift the sides, and roll the cover from rear to front. Brush off debris, fold neatly, and return it to the storage bag. Important: Never store the cover while damp—allow it to air-dry completely to prevent mildew.

How to Clean Your Travel Trailer Cover

Hand-clean only. For best results, install the cover on your trailer, rinse with a garden hose to remove loose dirt, then gently clean with a soft cloth and a mild multi-purpose cleaner. Rinse thoroughly and air-dry fully before storage.

Cleaning Warnings

  • Do NOT use harsh soaps, bleach, or fabric softeners.
  • Do NOT machine wash or iron the cover.
  • Always air-dry completely before storing.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know which side is the front of the cover?

Every cover includes a white tag labeled “FRONT.” On travel trailers, the “front” is the tongue/hitch end. If the tag is missing, the tagged end is still the front.

What are the vertical zippers for?

The zippers create access panels so you can enter the trailer without removing the entire cover. Some models include rear zippers for additional access.

What are the built-in Velcro straps inside the cover?

These hold access panels open when unzipped, preventing them from flapping or collapsing.

Repair Patch Instructions

Use the included repair patch for small punctures or tears (under 3 inches) on flat fabric areas.

When to Use

  • Minor pinholes, scuffs, or tears
  • Clean cuts from sharp edges
  • Reinforcement around high-stress points like gutter spouts

How to Apply

  1. Lay the cover flat and clean/dry the damaged area.
  2. Trim loose threads; round the patch corners.
  3. Overlap the damage by 1–2 inches all around.
  4. Peel backing, align, and press firmly.
  5. Smooth from center outward to remove air bubbles.
  6. Allow 12–24 hours to cure before reinstalling the cover.

Tip: For added strength, apply a patch on both sides of the fabric.

Your Travel Trailer Cover comes with one repair patch. Additional patches can be purchased here.

How do I install the ladder cap?

If your trailer has a rear ladder, wrap the ladder cap over the top and secure with Velcro. This prevents rubbing or tearing. One cap is included; extras are available.

How do I install the rain gutter protectors?

Place a protector over each gutter spout and secure with Velcro. Using all four protectors helps prevent sharp edges from ripping your cover.

Extra rain gutter protectors can be purchased here.

How do I use the weighted buckle bag?

Fill the toss bag with sand or small stones, clip it to a strap, and gently toss it under the trailer to thread straps without crawling.

Extra toss bags can be purchased here.
