Recent years have been rough for Volkswagen is a fair understatement. With mounting legal bills, buybacks and recall frenzies, Volkswagen needed a game changer to turn things around for itself and the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas has delivered just that. According to U.S. News, 2018 Volkswagen Atlas is ranked #1 among 19 midsize SUVs. And that’s pretty impressive given 2018 Atlas is the first of its kind from Volkswagen.

The 2018 Volkswagen is a three-row midsize SUV. The substantial presence on the road will surely be noticed with a longer chassis and a somewhat boxy look. The vehicle looks similar to Jeep Grand Cherokee from the front but the rear gets a bit roundish in shape. Streamlined structure, LED headlights and an optional skyroof definitely makes this a desirable vehicle from the outside.

2018 Volkswagen offers a whopping 153.7 cubic feet of interior volume. The heart of the infotainment system is the 8.0-inch touchscreen which offers full integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. With 3-row seating, Atlas somehow managed to make the third row adequate for two, full-size, grown adults even after leaving adequate space for cargo behind them. A 360-degree camera system, Fender-branded top-tier audio system are all available. While some element in the dash feels cheap in touch, we don’t have a lot to complaint about anything else.

Under the Hood
2018 Volkswagen Atlas features a base engine at 235 horsepower, turbo-four. There’s also a 3.6-liter V6 at 276 horsepower available. Both these more than capable engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. FWD is standard with AWD available. You can use regular gasoline in your Atlas unlike other Volkswagens. The smaller engine has not been tested for EPA yet but the V6 is rated at 18/25 mpg city/highway.

The 2018 Volkswagen Atlas starts at $33,500 which is a bit pricier than its competitors. Atlas offers more standard equipment than any comparable SUVs so the higher price tag is justifiable, plus German imports tend to be a tad-bit expensive. All-wheel drive models start at $36,800 and the top trim will cost you nearly $50,000.
